Prayer

I am here again after a long time
My instinct brought me to you.
Give me a sign, when these demons will turn into angels?
I feel too tired and old now.
I wish for a day without pain:
When I will wake up with enthusiasm
and sleep satisfied.
I donโ€™t want to be afraid of peopleโ€™s questions,
their critical analysis on what is I am doing to my life.
I want to praise beautiful things
and be honest in whatever I write.
I want to be a courageous lover,
who loves passionately the woman he likes.
There are so many things I wish to do,
but I am stuck in this darkness
and unable to get out of it.
Why donโ€™t you take care of me God?
Am I not your favorite child?

Note- Lately, while going back home, the sound of Azaan moved me and I found myself inside the mosque reading namaaz. This is an edited version of dua part.

  4. When I used to write poetry I noticed that I always prefered my short ones… I have no idea why… Do you feel the same?? I’m not saying I like your short poems better…I’m just curious if it’s just me who used to feel like that towards MY poetry.

  5. I think the key word in this poem is the word ”satisfaction”… Do I have to explain more? Or do you understand what I mean??

    1. You are right. It was a painful moment of extreme discontent.

      1. You write very well. I am like you (if I may say) a very tortured soul and I find its a shame that it is so hard to write about Joy and happiness when it is so easy to write about sadness. Why is it that then we are happy we have nothing to say!! Is it for that same reason that Rimbaud stopped writing??? At age 21 he had found happiness??? Questions that never been answered to my satisfaction (I CANT GET NO!!) !! But I try tpp!! I tell myself that the bad days are made so that we get to appreciate the average days because the really good days are so very rare…

        1. Very kind of you to say that ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree with all the points you have raised and saving your comment as a beautiful moment. Poetry just happen to few people I think (thinking about Neruda’s famous poem). If someday I manage to free myself or failed to write anymore, I want to live creatively.

          1. It is very addictive but it also is very healthy to be creative. I really feel like we are kindred spirits.

I believe most of us go through periods like this and sometimes we are drawn to a higher power, looking for answers to those tough questions…as I read your piece, I am reminded by the lyrics of a song by Woody Guthrie called God’s Promise in which ‘God’ explains that he gives us trials so we may overcome them and, in essence, provide us with darkness so that we may find light… I am attaching the link in case you want to check it out…I really enjoyed this post, as I am all the pieces I’ve read so far… http://woodyguthrie.org/Lyrics/Gods_Promise.htm

    1. Thanks a lot for reading. And I really liked the lyrics you shared and I listened to the song also and shared with my friends. This poem I actually wrote after a sudden outburst of spiritual feeling as I was feeling helpless in pain. I have always been an agnostic but now I think having faith in God is a gift for us.

  8. Hi Rashid,

I received notification that you followed me (thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Š), and so I had to take a look at your site to see what would possess you to do that…Lol! I see you have a strong spiritual bent (and perhaps an eclectic one, too?) as I do. I look forward to reading more of your work. I hope that fire of the poet’s pain/inspiration keeps you writing, learning, and yearning for more ways to express it. I, for one, know how lonely it can feel sometimes to have a “poet’s heart,” as well as being someone who crafts poetry. I don’t believe that the two conditions (for lack of a better word) necessarily always go together, but when they do, it can be exquisite (both for the poet and his/her readers). I am sure you know what I mean.
Have you read The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran? He has been a life-long hero for me. I see some of that same “spiritual fire” that lights his brutally honest work, in snippets of yours here.
Please feel free to comment on anything on my site that piques your interest in any way. As I mentioned, poetry can be a lonely occupation, so I definitely welcome “company.” Thanks, again, for following me. I will return the favor!

    Yours,
    Steph Harper

    1. Thank you Stephaniel for this beautiful comment. Even though my blog is old but I am new to active blogging. And what a lovely experience to meet wonderful people like you here. I am still trying to discover myself as poet. I read Gibran’s Prophet few 3 years back and he inspired me a lot. I think I need to read him again. I will surely read your work like I read mine ๐Ÿ™‚
